Insurance & Claims Lawyer

CyberClan’s Global Incident Response Teams are available 24/7/365 to leap into action, responding to all cyber-attacks with proven defensive methodology, we quickly identify, contain, eradicate and recover from a cyber-attack. Our goal is to get businesses fully operational as quickly as possible and to further prevent any downtown or impact to the business operations.

Role Overview: This role supports the CERT/Sales team with reviewing insurance policies, assisting with claims assessments, and contributing to breach response efforts. Ideal for someone with early in house or private practice experience who’s ready to grow into a broader commercial legal role.

This role will provide review, assessment, advice, and expertise in managing the claims process to support CyberClan’s delivery of Incident Response projects. Responsibilities include analyzing claims and providing recommendations for resolution.

We are seeking an experienced claims professional to join our team and contribute to the handling of intricate primary and excess Cyber, Tech, and Media policies, as well as future Executive Risks and Management Professional Liability. The candidate will also collaborate with a variety of vendors, including breach counsel, defense counsel, and coverage counsel for our partner carriers.

In addition, this role will support breach response efforts by helping to manage the immediate impact of a security incident through timely, practical legal advice. The position requires close coordination with IT, legal, Sales, Partners and other internal teams to ensure a swift and organized response.

This role will also play a key part in supporting the development and strengthening of insurance and legal relationships—helping CyberClan enhance its network of carrier, broker, and counsel partnerships globally.

Responsibilities of Role:

Claims Assessment Service/Incident Response Serve as a member of a 24x7/365 service delivery team that handles incident response, post breach remediation and escalation, evaluating claims and recommend accurate reserves to be reported to the insurance partners (Most work can be carried out during business hours) For key insurance partnerships, evaluate insurance policies against remediate requirements to determine coverage and/or declinatures and produce the appropriate reports for the insureds, cover holders and insurers Liaise with external legal advisers and insurers as required, particularly during complex or high- value matters. Support breach response and crisis management efforts by providing timely, practical legal input during security incidents. Maintain accurate and timely file documentation/information in our claims/CRM system for partner review and internal billing Support and participate in Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with key insurance partners Serve as a legal expert to interpret and support effective communication and provide guard rails for internal teams on high stakes incidents Develop documentation on the workflow and process for claims assessments to formalize the process and be able to showcase the value to prospect insurance companies Other duties as assigned

Internal Legal Support contract negotiations by reviewing and advising on insurance and liability clauses. Maintain all legal records and ensure documentation is accurate and accessible Monitor legal and regulatory developments in insurance, data protection, and risk to keep internal stakeholders informed. Manage litigation including third party liability arising from security failure or data breaches, Media and Tech E&O Identify settlement opportunities to maximize impact and preserve limits Collaborate in the defense and resolution of claims Intelligently guide and track third-party vendors and service providers Assess insurance coverage issues, renewals and best fit for the business Assess liability and damage data in affiliation with intricate claims, maintaining appropriate documentation Research, investigate and provide opinions on internal employee concerns/claims as needed, including liaising with external legal where needed Draft and review standard contract clauses related to insurance and liability (NDAs, Partner Agreements) Other duties as assigned

Business Development (Legal & Insurance) Assist in planning and delivering breach simulations and table-top exercises alongside internal teams. Research legal and regulatory developments related to insurance, data protection, money services business, new jurisdictions, legal risks, summarize findings for internal use and sales development Collaborate with marketing and business development teams on external-facing initiatives, including client briefings, thought leadership, and industry events. Work with sales leaders on a strategy to develop legal and insurance industry and exposure in core regions Maintain and develop relationships with brokers, risk managers, general counsel, and vendors Other duties as assigned

Requirements/Must Haves: 2+ post-qualification experience in insurance law (either in-house or in private practice). Proven experience advising on insurance claims and policy coverage. Working knowledge of data protection laws, cyber insurance, and breach response practices. Ability to make sound legal judgments independently and communicate them clearly to non-legal stakeholders. Fluent in English Strong coverage background Demonstrated experience working as part of a team, leading a team, interacting with others, meeting goals, and successfully performing in a changing work environment Excellent communication skills, interactive experience, and proactive mindset Team-oriented with an aptitude to excel in a collegial environment

Asset/Nice-to-Have: Previous in-house experience within a regulated sector. Experience acting as or working alongside breach coaches during cyber incidents. Familiarity with cross-border insurance or multinational policy frameworks.
