The Commercial team thrives on staying ahead of industry trends to position clients successfully in a fast-evolving business environment. Collaborating closely with managing directors, finance directors, and commercial/sales leaders—across organisations from small businesses to global PLCs—the team delivers innovative support with a dedicated focus on continuous learning and growth.
This opportunity is ideal for a Commercial Contracts & Data Protection Lawyer eager to drive legal innovation and progress within the firm. You’ll work within a flexible, supporting, and forward-thinking environment, shaping the team’s strategic direction alongside senior leaders and delivering exceptional legal services.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Strategic Initiatives
- Support departmental research and development projects to explore potential clients, competitors, products, and services (including AI and software solutions for clients and the firm).
- Identify and pursue opportunities to position the firm as a leader in commercial contracts and data protection.
Contract Management
- Draft, review, negotiate, or amend a wide range of commercial contracts, including:
- Standard trading terms and conditions.
- Procurement contracts (manufacturing, outsourcing).
- Sales channel agreements (direct supply, agency, franchise, distribution, licensing).
- IT contracts (software development, SaaS, hosting, SLAs, IP assignments/licensing).
- Confidentiality, exclusivity, warranties, guarantees, indemnities, settlements, novations, lead referrals, self-employed consultancy.

Data Protection Compliance
- Ensure GDPR, CCPA, and other data protection laws are adhered to, including:
- Drafting and reviewing data processing agreements.
- Developing privacy policies.
- Conducting data protection impact assessments (DPIAs).
Transactional & Risk Solutions
- Assist the corporate team with due diligence.
- Identify and mitigate legal risks in commercial transactions and data protection.
- Provide legal advice to internal stakeholders on commercial and regulatory matters.
Project & Operational Support
- Manage allocated projects with minimal senior supervision, ensuring timely delivery.
- Stay current with legal developments and communicate updates to the team.
- Contribute to marketing and business development, enhancing the team’s client roster.
- Support the Head of Department (and wider firm leadership) in achieving strategic objectives.
Client Relations & Business Growth
- Serve as the key legal contact for clients, offering practical and timely advice.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, exploring upsell opportunities.
- Align all interactions with the Flint Bishop Client Charter, ensuring professionalism and clarity.

Innovation & Thought Leadership

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Qualification & Experience: Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience (PQE) in commercial law.
- Client Care: Exceptional ability to deliver high-level client service.
- Technical Skills: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Self-Driven: Demonstrated motivation to initiate projects with limited supervision.
- Collaboration: Strong teamwork ethic and networking skills for client development.
- Automated Checks Required: Disclosure and financial background screening via SOLAPP or equivalent.
