City of Wolverhampton Council – Solicitor/Senior Solicitor/Barrister (Adult Social Care)
About the Role
Permanent, full-time (37 hours per week)
Grade 8 – £52,413 to £56,730 plus market forces payment of 10% until 31 May 2028
Location: Based at Wolverhampton Civic Centre and other suitable locations

'As a Solicitor/Barrister within the legal department, your core responsibilities include:
- Providing legal advice and representation to adult social care services
- Managing a varied caseload, covering:
- Court of Protection applications (including S21A challenges)
- Deprivation of Liberty cases (Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards/DoLS & Re X applications)
- Nearest Relative disputes
- Mental Health Law matters under the Mental Health Act 1983
- Continuing Health Care Funding and service commissioning disputes
- Section 21(a)/Care Act 2014 duties
- Community Care Law and representation in inquests
- Judicial Review applications
- Forced Marriage Issues relating to legal consequences for adults
- Advising senior officers within the local authority
- Actively contributing to client care and business development

Required Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor/Barrister (with equivalent qualifications considered) with strong experience in Adult Social Care Law. Collaboration with local government on public law issues, such as adult safeguarding, care planning and disability rights, is fundamental.
While experience within local government is an advantage, applications from private practice solicitors/barristers are also encouraged.
PSO: All posts within the council require a satisfactory DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
