Location: London, Victoria Job Type: Fixed Term Contract (13 months) Salary: £61,492 (plus Inner London Weighting £3,353) Working Pattern: Full Time (35 hours)

About the Role
Prospect Union is seeking a Solicitor to provide specialist legal advice, representation, and training on employment law. This fixed-term maternity cover role (13 months) is based in our London office within the Legal Department.
Reporting to the General Counsel and Head of Legal, you will:
- Advise officers, representatives, and members on complex individual and collective employment law matters.
- Lead and manage Employment Tribunal cases.
- Contribute to policy development and training programs.
- Represent Prospect in legal proceedings and negotiations.

Responsibilities
Essential
- Provide specialist employment law advice to members, representatives, and stakeholders.
- Manage and represent cases in Employment Tribunals, including advocacy and negotiation.
- Analyse legal disputes, research, and synthesise information to inform decision-making.
- Develop and deliver legal training for members, officers, and internal teams.
- Work collaboratively with the General Counsel, Head of Legal, and fellow counsel to shape legal strategy.
- Self-manage workload and prioritise complex casework effectively.
- Engage constructively with employers, regulators, and other parties, maintaining clarity and advocacy.
- Align legal advice with Prospect’s policy goals to strengthen members’ representation.
Desirable
- Experience with Prospect’s legal database or union-specific systems (hinted at through past role).
- Familiarity with regulation changes and case law trends in employment law.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified solicitor with at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience.
- Specialist knowledge of employment law with ability to manage complex legal disputes.
- Direct experience handling Employment Tribunal cases.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse legal issues and communicate findings clearly.
- Strong self-management skills, with capacity to handle multiple casework demands proactively.
- Experience advising mirroring public sector unions or trade union organisations.
- Commitment to advocating for fair and equal workplace rights.

Desirable
- Strong IT proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office/365, Outlook, Teams).
- Experience providing policy advice alongside legal representation.
