About the Role
We are seeking a talented Solicitor to join our highly regarded Professional Indemnity Team, with a particular focus on construction-related professional indemnity claims. The Team is experiencing significant growth driven by both an expanding client base and increasing demand from our existing clients, creating an exciting opportunity for a motivated lawyer to become part of a thriving practice.
In this role, you will play an integral part in the continued success and development of the team, in collaboration with our wider practice nationally and, where required, internationally. You will have the opportunity to contribute to high-profile matters, build strong client relationships and support the team's ambitious growth strategy.
Our team acts for many of the UK and global insurers, working on joint defence retainers with Insured professionals such as architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, contract administrators, project managers, M&E engineers, contractors and subcontractors. We also advise Insurers directly on complex policy coverage issues arising from construction disputes.
The construction disputes market remains exceptionally active, and our team is involved in some of the most complex and technically challenging professional indemnity claims in the Scottish market. We encourage all team members to build their own client relationships, providing genuine opportunities to contribute to business development for the successful candidate to progress their career.
Key Responsibilities
- With appropriate Partner or senior lawyer supervision, building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, delivering clear, commercial and pragmatic advice, keeping stakeholders informed of strategy, risks and developments
- Working on a varied caseload of construction-related professional indemnity claims on behalf of a wide range of construction professionals
- Assisting insurers with coverage issues under construction professional indemnity policies, with appropriate partner supervision, and helping to identify key policy and indemnity considerations early
- Handling appropriate matters from initial instruction through pre-action and litigated stages, including drafting correspondence and pleadings, managing evidence, and supporting clients with real-time project issues where required
- Taking day-to-day ownership of files, while supporting Partners and senior lawyers on larger matters
- Contributing to the resolution of disputes through ADR
- Instructing and liaising with experts and Counsel, including helping to scope instructions, manage timetables and ensure advice is implemented effectively

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
