Solution Architect – Secure Innovation & Advisory

CGI’s Space, Defence, and Intelligence business unit delivers cutting-edge technical solutions tailored to the most complex challenges faced by government agencies. Our mission-critical systems prioritise security, reliability, and innovation, helping protect the nation and its people. We are seeking a Solution Architect to join our Secure Innovation & Advisory team, collaborating closely with clients to deliver high-impact solutions.

Note: Due to the project’s highly secure nature, eligibility is restricted to UK Nationals (excluding dual nationals or visa holders) who hold or are eligible for High-Level Clearance (HLC). While we offer flexibility for remote or hybrid working arrangements, onsite attendance at designated locations will be required for secure system access.

Key Responsibilities

System Ownership & Strategic Decision-Making

  • Own software systems with low to medium risk, complexity, size and quality.
  • Engage with business, delivery, and operational stakeholders to align software efforts with strategic goals.

Architectural Leadership

  • Identify, prioritise, and resolve architectural concerns based on:
    • Quality attributes (non-functional requirements);
    • Other critical drivers (e.g., performance, scalability, compliance).
  • Make or guide architectural decisions regarding:
    • Technology stacks;
    • Internal/external interfaces and integration pathways;
    • Development and deployment environments.
  • Model software system contexts and structures, ensuring alignment with evolving needs.

Validation & Continuous Improvement

  • Validate systems against current and anticipated architectural requirements through:
    • Analysis;
    • Modelling and roadmapping.
  • Support development and operations teams via:
    • Coaching;
    • Explaining/reviewing detailed designs and code for coherence and quality.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, methodologies, and industry trends to inform better choices.

Required Qualifications & Competencies

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate:

  • Software architecture fundamentals with concrete design experience;
  • Expertise in systems integration, including complex workflow harmonisation;
  • Sharp requirements analysis skills to translate needs into technical solutions;
  • Deep knowledge of software technologies, including modern development paradigms.
