Solution Development Engineer (Electrical Engineer)

As part of the Electrical Engineering Team, your work will include:

Developing and leading technical solutions across diverse assets/teams, such as: 📄 Engineering standards/policies (specifications, Safe Systems of Work, WIMES) 🔻 Leading investigations and engineering risk solutions (both proactive and post-incident) 🏗 Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for failures, defining deliverable scopes/ 📚 Coaching/mentoring team members for knowledge transfer and succession


Responsibilities

  • Policy & Specification Support:

    • Maintain/update technical guidance (e.g. HV/LV inspection standards, design criteria)
    • Contribute to compliance with environmental/water regulations
  • Technical Problem-Solving:

    • Lead Standard Investigations (SIRs) for asset failures or performance gaps
    • Inform critical capital projects and service-delivery operations
    • Conduct HV/LV switching support for business units
  • Incident & RCFA Work:

    • Perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) on equipment incidents
    • Create work packages scoped for delivery
  • Team & Knowledge Leadership:

    • Mentor junior engineers in specialist fields (e.g. autorised HV work)
    • Guide colleagues through asset management frameworks

Key Requirements

Essential

  • Qualifications: HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • Standards Experience:
    • Ability to write/develop engineering standards and technical specifications
  • Investigative Experience:
    • Actionable solutions after proactive engineering/incident reviews
  • Communication Skills:
    • Technical clarity in written/verbal formats (decomposing complex ideas for non-specialists)
  • IT Proficiency:
    • Microsoft Office (Word/database Excel formats), Office 365 standards
    • Data management skills + familiarity with internal systems (SAP/WIMES preferred)
  • Interpersonal Skills:
    • Engaging with external partners, internal teams,
    • Building data-driven business relationships

Desirable

  • High Voltage Skills:
    • Authorised HV Person training (City & Guilds accredited or equivalent)
  • Membership: Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status in a UK engineering institution
  • Specialist Competencies:
    • Plant reliability/RCFA experience, design-for-reliability approaches
  • Industry Exposure:
    • Large-scale asset management in engineering/manufacturing
