Role Overview
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting Yorkshire Water’s Principal Mechanical Engineer, delivering expert technical solutions across water and wastewater systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical engineering expertise for projects, schemes, and assets
- Develop design specifications, technical reports, and work packages
- Support capital investment teams and project delivery
- Review and update Engineering Specifications annually
- Lead technical investigations for asset/process performance issues
- Coordinate discipline-specific knowledge transfer via mentoring and training
- Collaborate with other Engineering Teams and business units

What You’ll Fit In As
You’ll need expertise in:
- Mechanical systems: Water/wastewater plants, pumps, pressure systems, lifting equipment
- Technical documentation: Standards, specifications, and procedures
- Problem-solving: Proven experience in resolving operational issues through engineering solutions
- Communication: Presenting technical strategies to both engineers and business stakeholders
- Stakeholder management: Building effective internal/external relationships
- Health & safety compliance: Keeping pace with Pressure System Safety (PSSR), LOLER, and PUWER regulations
Requirements
Essential
- Minimum HNC qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (Dlegree preferred)
- 1+ years of experience in mechanical/process-related engineering
- Knowledge of rotating/non-rotating mechanical equipment and manufacturing best practices
- Ability to develop and implement engineering methodologies and standards
- Project experience: Delivered capital projects or similar schemes

Desired
- Water/wastewater or utilities industry experience
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or progress towards)
- Degree qualification in mechanical/process engineering
- Familiarity with trend analysis, pumping systems, or engineering ROI assessments
