Solution Development Engineer - Mechanical Engineer
Yorkshire Water is seeking an enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer to drive innovation and excellence within our Engineering Team. Key Information
- Location: Buttershaw, Bradford (hybrid working)
- Approximately 2 days in-office/on-site weekly
- Regular regional travel
- Head Office relocation to Leeds LS10 from September 2026
- Employment Type: Permanent
- Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday–Friday
- Salary Range: £50,300 – £62,876
- Salary Review: annual performance-dependent benchmark (pro-rata for future salary band)

The Role
Our Mechanical Engineer specialises in integrated process systems suited to water and wastewater treatment. You will report directly to the Principal Mechanical Engineer, delivering technical precision that continues to elevate service excellence.
Core Responsibilities

Cross-Sector Technical Support:
- Lead or support the design, investigation, and troubleshooting of assets—including water treatment plants, pumping stations, pressure systems, and lifting equipment.
- Work alongside Principal Mechanical Engineer, ensuring alignment with company-wide mechanical safety protocols and engineering standards.

Contract and Asset Management:
- Collaborate with capital investment teams, developing engineered solutions and managing contract scope packages.
- Oversee work packages delivered by contractors or internal engineering teams against engineering specifications.

Risk Mitigation & Compliance:
- Review annual engineering specifications covering updates, compliance assessments, and readiness for implementation.
- ES&L (Environmental, Safety, and Legal) management under the framework of Yorkshire Water’s Safety Policy.

Workstream Leadership:
- Mobilise small and medium scale projects under the mechanical capital delivery programme.
- Provide stakeholder-coaching, trainee mentorship, and knowledge succession for technical equipment and systems competence.

Team Support & Collaboration:
- Act as a technical adviser, partnering with mechanical teams, regulators, and asset managers.
- Maintain open channels with process engineers and whoever aligns with a single care for Yorkshire's resource resilience.
Person Specification
Must-Have Experience & Qualifications
- Completion of a minimum relevant engineering qualification:
- Minimum HNC level in applicable engineering (mechanical, process engineering).
- Degree preferred (e.g. mechanical engineering, water engineering).
- Strong familiarity with:
- Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) 2000
- Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998
- PUWER 1998, ensuring compliance with UK health-and-safety legislation.
- Rotating & Non-Rotating Mechanical Equipment Expertise:
- Proven experience designing, troubleshooting, and specifying pumps and dynamic systems within the water or utilities/manufacturing sectors.
- Industry Readiness:
- Embedding agreed engineering solutions with proper technical rigor and تفس كثير away deliverables.

- Connoisseur of maintenance oversight, creating operational and prevention frameworks inclusive of CRB.
- Pumps & Systems Design Experience: Achieving efficiency, reliability, and legibility of performance benchmarks.
- Excel in engineering specifications and briefs, safeguarding for high-quality assembly and resilience.

- Determined interpersonal drive – aligned ally stakeholders at all levels to drive operational performance.
