Role: Java Solution Architect with Kafka

Location: London
Job Type: Permanent/Fixed Term (Hybrid)
Working Hours: 40 Hours

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end solution architecture and design for enterprise-scale Java applications, ensuring alignment with business objectives, scalability, security, and maintainability requirements.
  • Design and govern Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) solutions leveraging technologies such as Kafka, including event modeling, messaging patterns, resilience, and integration strategies.
  • Create and maintain architecture artifacts including C4 diagrams, solution blueprints, sequence diagrams, and technical design documents.
  • Present and defend architectural solutions in architecture review boards, governance forums, and stakeholder meetings, effectively articulating technical decisions and trade-offs.
  • Collaborate closely with development teams to explain architectural designs, provide technical guidance, and ensure implementation adheres to approved architecture and design standards.
  • Perform architecture reviews and design assurance, identifying deviations, risks, and opportunities for optimization throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to developers and technical leads, fostering engineering excellence and architectural consistency across teams.
  • Drive non-functional requirements (NFRs) such as performance, scalability, reliability, observability, and security into solution designs from inception.

Essential Skills

  • Strong understanding of the Java technology stack, including core Java, Spring ecosystem, microservices, and enterprise application development.
  • Working knowledge of Event-Driven Architecture (EDA), with hands-on experience or understanding of messaging platforms such as Kafka.
  • Experience in architectural design and documentation, including the ability to create and interpret C4 Architecture Model diagrams (Context, Container, Component, and Code levels).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to create impactful PowerPoint presentations and effectively present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Skills/Knowledge/Experience

  • Java Solution Architect in a dedicated Solution Architect role.
  • Possesses deep expertise in designing and implementing event-driven architectures using modern integration patterns.
  • Strong background in solutioning, system design, leading architecture discussions, and presenting solutions to architecture forums.
  • Demonstrates solid understanding of Docker, containerization, and OpenShift for building, deploying, and managing scalable microservices platforms.
  • Proven ability to translate complex business requirements into robust, scalable technical solutions, while effectively communicating architectural vision to both technical and business stakeholders.
