Solutions Consultant – Barclaycard Payments (12-Month Secondment/FTC)
About the Role
Join Barclaycard Payments as a Solutions Consultant on a 12-month secondment/FTC, where you will lead technical qualification, solution design, and pre-sales engagement for complex payment acceptance opportunities across Gateway, Acquiring and Fraud solutions.
As the technical authority throughout the sales lifecycle, you will collaborate with Coverage, Product, Professional Services, and client technical teams to:
- Understand business and technical requirements
- Design scalable payment architectures
- Validate solution fit
- Conduct detailed discovery sessions
- Produce solution designs
- Identify technical and commercial risks
- Guide customers through architectural decision-making
Your role combines technical consultancy, payments expertise, and commercial awareness to accelerate solution adoption and drive successful customer outcomes.
Purpose of the Role
Generate revenue and promote Barclays’ diverse product and service offerings to various customer segments.
Key Accountabilities
- Customer Identification & Needs Analysis:
- Identify potential customers, analyse their needs and preferences
- Track emerging market trends and competitor strategies
- Segment Profiles & Tailored Sales Approaches
- Develop detailed customer profiles (demographics, financial habits, pain points)
- Relationship Management
- Provide high-quality customer support, addressing queries and resolving issues
- Build trust with existing and prospective clients, understanding their financial goals and challenges
- Product & Compliance Expertise
- Understand features, benefits, risks, and compliance requirements of banking products and services
- Communicate key features, benefits, risks, enhancements, and regulatory requirements to customers
- Sales & Proposal Development
- Create compelling sales pitches and proposals to convert leads
- Negotiate terms beneficial to both client and bank
- Customer Feedback & Strategy Alignment
- Collect and analyse customer feedback to inform product development and sales strategies
- Monitor lead conversion rates, customer acquisition costs, and sales performance metrics

To Be Successful in This Role
Essential Requirements
- Experience in:
- Payments, FinTech, SaaS, or Enterprise Technology environments
- Technical pre-sales, solution consulting, or solutions architecture
- Technical & Domain Knowledge:
- Payment gateway architecture & transaction processing
- API-based solutions and integrations (REST APIs, JSON, webhooks)
- Authentication frameworks, POS providers, and ISVs
- Ecommerce platforms (Adobe Commerce, Shopify, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, BigCommerce, WooCommerce)
- Payment ecosystem participants (Acquirers, Issuers, Processors, Payment Schemes, PSPs, Fraud Providers)
- Methodologies & Documentation:
- Conducting: Business discovery, technical discovery, architecture workshops, gap analysis, and solution fit assessments
- Identifying delivery, operational, and compliance risks early in sales cycles
- Translating business requirements into technical solutions
- Producing solution architecture diagrams and technical documentation
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of Barclays’ product solutions
- Experience in B2B financial services
- Data analytics, data consultancy, or retail analytics background
- Understanding of consumer spending behaviours
- Awareness of evolving economic impacts on consumer spend
