Job Description
Gleeson is partnering with a growing and ambitious logistics organisation that is undergoing a significant transformation across its UK operations. With a focus on network optimisation, fleet efficiency, and operational standardisation, the business is investing heavily in data-led decision making to drive future growth and performance.
Due to continued investment and a strong pipeline of strategic projects and tender opportunities, they are looking to appoint a Solutions Design Manager to lead transport network modelling, optimisation initiatives, and commercial solution design across the business. This is a highly analytical and commercially focused role that will see you working closely with senior leadership to shape the future direction of the organisation's transport operation.
Job Title: Solutions Design Manager - Transport Network Design
Location: UK (Hybrid/Remote Considered)
Package: £60,000 - £80,000 + Benefits
The Role
As a Solutions Design Manager, you will be responsible for designing, modelling, and optimising transport networks while supporting key commercial initiatives through data-driven analysis and solution development.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Designing and optimising transport networks across a national operation to improve efficiency, utilisation, and service performance.
- Analysing route structures, trunking operations, fleet deployment, and operational performance to identify improvement opportunities.
- Developing strategic recommendations around fleet utilisation, vehicle mix, and operating models.
- Leading network modelling exercises to support fleet optimisation and rationalisation initiatives.
- Supporting the transition towards more efficient operating models through scenario planning and operational analysis.
- Working closely with commercial teams to support major customer tenders and business development opportunities.
- Analysing large customer datasets to model delivery volumes, vehicle requirements, route networks, trunking structures, and operational costs.
- Developing commercially robust transport solutions that align with customer requirements and business objectives.
- Producing cost models, business cases, and operational recommendations for tender submissions and strategic projects.
- Partnering with operational leaders to develop warehouse costing methodologies and cost-per-slot models.
- Supporting pricing, budgeting, and operational decision-making through detailed cost analysis.
- Manipulating and analysing large data sets to provide actionable insights that drive operational improvements.
- Developing modelling tools and decision-support frameworks to improve visibility and performance across the network.
- Utilising fleet, asset, and operational performance data to support strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Working collaboratively with operations, commercial teams, planners, and senior stakeholders to drive data-led decision making.
- Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service performance across the operation.

- Proven experience within Transport Solutions Design, Network Design, or Solutions Engineering roles.
- Strong background in transport network optimisation, fleet modelling, and operational analysis.
- Experience supporting customer tenders, bids, and commercial solution development.
- Advanced analytical skills with the ability to manipulate and interpret large operational datasets.
- Strong understanding of transport operations, routing, trunking, fleet utilisation, and network planning.
- Experience developing operational cost models and supporting strategic decision-making.
- Exposure to warehouse solutions design and warehouse costing methodologies would be advantageous.
