The Role
Are you an experienced Sonographer looking to advance your career within a progressive and supportive healthcare environment? NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a skilled and motivated Sonographer to join our Imaging Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to work autonomously, providing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations and expert clinical reports that directly influence patient care and treatment pathways. As part of one of the UK's largest NHS organisations, you will work alongside multidisciplinary colleagues, contribute to service development and support the education of future Sonographers. All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Full Time, Permanent
- You will be based at The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
- Working Pattern: TBC
Key Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations independently across diverse patient groups
- Produce accurate autonomous reports and provide expert clinical guidance to support patient management
- Assess and justify referrals ensuring examinations are appropriate and clinically effective
- Prioritise workloads and respond effectively to urgent and emergency referrals
- Support, supervise and mentor trainee Sonographers, Radiographers and other healthcare professionals
- Participate in quality assurance activities, audit, clinical governance and service improvement initiatives
- Contribute to workforce planning, policy development and the effective use of departmental resources

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job:
- HCPC registration and a recognised qualification in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent professional qualification
- Postgraduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound such as PgCert, PgDip, MSc or equivalent
- Advanced ultrasound scanning and interpretation skills across general medical ultrasound practice
- Experience of independent reporting and autonomous clinical decision making
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to support patients through sensitive and complex situations
- Leadership, organisational and supervisory skills with experience supporting the development of students and trainees
- Commitment to continuing professional development and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of ultrasound practice, governance and healthcare legislation
