Sourcing Business Partner

Sourcing Business Partner – AWE (Atomic Weapons Estate)

About the Role

As part of the Commercial Partnering team at AWE (Atomic Weapons Estate), we are seeking a Sourcing Business Partner to deliver strategic procurement outcomes, ensure aligned commercial strategies and foster stakeholder engagement.

The successful candidate will:

  • Shape and articulate commercial strategy and future demand planning.
  • Ensure procurement delivery teams clearly understand strategic outcomes.
  • Develop deep procurement expertise and promote stakeholder education.
  • Act as a strategic commercial advisor, building partnerships with business stakeholders.
  • Promote diversity in a dynamic, varied role where no two days are the same.

Package & Benefits

  • Salary: £47,760 – £65,000 (dependent on experience).
  • Working Week: 9-day fortnight (every other Friday off), plus 270 hours of annual leave.

Key Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Act as the commercial representative for assigned business units, ensuring sourcing efficiencies, risk mitigation, and cost savings.
  • Collaborate with Category Managers to align category strategies, preferred suppliers, and stakeholder needs.
  • Deliver make/buy decisions, linking business strategies with procurement forecasting and budgeting.
  • Enjoy diverse, dynamic work with varying challenges to tackle daily.

Strategic & Operational Support

  • Serve as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for all Commercial & Procurement matters, resolving escalations and managing stakeholder relations.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts.
  • Develop sourcing plans and spend analysis, ensuring savings and efficiency gains.
  • Support Process & Performance evaluations and Service Centre development.
  • Construct a formal Procurement & Commercial pipeline aligning operational demands with strategic priorities.

Specialised Engagement

  • Tailor sourcing strategies for specialised teams (e.g., R&D & Product Development).
  • Assist with supplier management to maximise benefits and reduce risks.
  • Drive partnerships with internal stakeholders to harness capabilities across spend categories.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Minimum standard in Maths & English, or equivalent commercial experience.
  • Experience (5–7 years preferred):
    • Commercial & Procurement (dealing with budgets/negotiations).
    • Category Management & Strategic Sourcing.
    • Supplier Relationship Management.
  • Desirable qualifications:
    • MCIPS, CIPS, or accredited Project Management (e.g. APM) qualification.

Skills & Attributes

✅ Must demonstrate:

  • Innovation in problem-solving.
  • Effective stakeholder management (navigating multiple objectives/relationships).
  • Resilience when driving change in complex environments.

⚠ Bonus experience (boosts suitability):

  • Experience in contract drafting, negotiation, and public procurement regulations.
  • Knowledge of securing contracts, risk mitigation strategies.
  • Empathy in negotiating tactfully with challenging stakeholders.
  • Multi-course experience—proven success in multiple simultaneous projects.
