Responsibilities

In this Sous Chef role, your responsibilities include but aren't limited to:

Food Preparation

  • Prepare and cook dishes according to recipes and standards set by the head chef
  • Ensure adherence to food safety standards at all times

Station Management

  • Oversee the production of all dishes assigned to your station
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of your designated area—supplies, equipment, and workflows
  • Follow kitchen policies and procedures

Quality Control

  • Maintain high quality standards in both presentation and taste
  • Regularly taste dishes and ensure consistency with customer expectations

Team Collaboration

  • Communicate positively and effectively with all team members
  • Assist/support colleagues (including coaching junior chefs)
  • Foster a collaborative environment where everyone feels supported

Menu Development

  • Collaborate with the head chef to develop and taste new recipes
  • Offer suggestions for improvement or innovation

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and equipment in good working order, including your designated area

Qualifications & Requirements

Candidates should have:

  • Proven experience as a Commis Chef or similar role
  • Knowledge of various cooking techniques and cuisines
  • Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Proficient communication and teamwork abilities
  • Alignment with BaxterStorey’s core values
