We’re now seeking a warm, enthusiastic, and dedicated individual to join our award-winning team as a Sous Chef at Derby Heights Care Home in Littleover. If this role resonates with you, we’d love to hear from you!


About the Role

The Sous Chef will support the Head Chef in leading a culinary team to deliver:

  • Nutritionally balanced, nutritious meals
  • Exceptional quality culinary service
  • Positive contributions to the well-being of residents
  • Strict adherence to budgetary constraints

Key Responsibilities:

  • Menu Planning & Dietary Needs

    • Preparing modified diets that are appealing, balanced, and compliant with IDDSI guidelines.
  • Staff Supervision & Training

    • Supervising and directing culinary team members under the guidance of the Head Chef.
    • Training unqualified staff in basic food preparation techniques.
  • Food Safety & Hygiene

    • Ensuring adherence to safe food handling procedures to maintain highest hygiene standards.
    • Supporting the Avery Food Safety Management System across the culinary team.

About You

Candidates must embody Avery’s core values: caritas (caring), supportiveness, honesty, respect, and accountability.

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

✔ A relevant catering qualification (City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2, NVQ Level 2 in Food Processing, or equivalent). ✔ Minimum of 1 year working in catering. ✔ Proven compassion for people in care, coupled with a commitment to excellence in food provision. ✔ Ability to be adaptable and flexible to manage a varied workload as required.
