Sous Chef – Hospitality & Fine Dining | Manchester (With Travel to Leeds/Birmingham)

Job Title

Sous Chef

Location & Commute

  • Base: Manchester
  • Travel Required: Occasionally to Leeds/Birmingham for events
  • Hours: Monday to Friday

Salary

Up to £31,500 (competitive and negotiated based on experience)

Responsibilities

Culinary Execution

  • Food Preparation: Ensure all dishes prepared meet Head Chef standards with strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and consistency guidelines.
  • Station Management: Oversee production for designated station, maintaining clean lines and optimal workflow.

Quality & Creativity

  • Quality Control: Maintain gold-standard presentation, taste, and precision in every dish.
  • Collaborative Menu Creation: Work closely with the Head Chef to develop and refine recipes, offering innovative ideas and meaningful feedback.

Team & Leadership

  • Team Collaboration: Foster open communication, support colleagues, and act as a coach & mentor to junior chefs.
  • Daily Support: Assist with pedicure tasks and plate productions outside your station, minimising bottlenecks and maintaining productivity.

Kitchen Operations

  • Hygiene & Maintenance: Lead by example in CPD (Cleaning, Preventative Maintenance, upkeep) of station and equipment.
  • Method Development: Document and refine your cooking techniques and workflows for consistency and efficiency.

Requirements

Culinary Experience

  • Demonstrated success as a Commis Chef or similar role
  • Passion for fine dining, hospitality, and fine-powered cuisine
  • Proven ability to work under pressure with exceptional attention to detail

Key Skills

  • Expertise in a variety of cooking techniques and ability to adapt to diverse cuisines
  • Strong food safety & sanitation knowledge (within regulatory standards)
  • Outstanding communication and teamwork—both vertically and horizontally
  • Strong leadership & people skills for coaching new talent
