Retirement Villages Group is a leading provider in the hospital and health care industry, dedicated to enhancing the lives of our residents through exceptional service and care. We are currently seeking a skilled and passionate Sous Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in kitchen operations and a genuine commitment to delivering nutritious, delicious, and appealing meals that cater to the dietary needs of our senior community.

As Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef and kitchen staff to maintain high standards of food quality, safety, and presentation while managing a smooth and efficient kitchen environment. This role is integral in ensuring the culinary experience supports the overall well-being and satisfaction of our residents, contributing to a welcoming and homely atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Chef in planning and preparing nutritious meals tailored for elderly residents, considering dietary restrictions and health requirements.
  • Supervise and coordinate daily kitchen operations to ensure efficiency and compliance with food safety standards.
  • Train, mentor, and lead kitchen staff to maintain high levels of performance and teamwork.
  • Maintain inventory control, order ingredients and supplies, and manage kitchen budget responsibly.
  • Ensure all meals are prepared and presented to the highest quality and aesthetic standards.
  • Collaborate with dietitians and care staff to develop menus that meet residents’ nutritional needs and preferences.
  • Enforce strict hygiene and sanitation guidelines in compliance with health regulations.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or similar role in a health care or hospitality environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food preparation techniques and dietary requirements for elderly individuals.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse kitchen team.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities, capable of handling multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations in a hospital or aged care setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with kitchen staff, management, and other departments.
  • Passion for delivering healthy, balanced meals and improving residents’ quality of life through nutrition.
