SP247910 - Occupational Therapist (Child Neurodevelopmental Pathway)
Specialist Occupational Therapist (Band 6) – Child Neurodevelopmental Pathway
Location: Aberdeen City Health and Social Care Partnership Base: Aberdeen Health Village, Frederick Street, Aberdeen Hours: 21 hours per week Contract: Temporary or Secondment (23 months)
About the Role
Aberdeen City Health and Social Care Partnership is seeking a Specialist Occupational Therapist to contribute to the emerging community-owned neurodevelopmental pathway for children and families across Aberdeen City.
This unique opportunity focuses on creating a neuro-affirming, strengths-based model built on early identification and timely support in universal and community settings, ultimately reducing reliance on specialist diagnostic pathways. You will work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, leading occupational therapy consultations within a "team around the child" model.
Your role will involve partnering with education, health, and third-sector colleagues to:
- Build shared understanding of needs
- Support inclusive environments for neurodivergent children
- Enhance decision-making processes to improve children’s and families’ outcomes
You will provide clinical leadership, contribute to narrative-building with families and professionals, and improve evidence-gathering practices. Additionally, you will support workforce learning in neuro-affirming practice, drawing expertise from the Scottish Government’s National Neurodevelopmental Specification, as well as insights from the National Autism Implementation Team (NAIT) and NHS Education for Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
-
Clinical Contributions:
- Deliver expert occupational therapy assessments, interventions, and recommendations.
- Provide consultative input as part of an AHP-led multidisciplinary approach.
-
Collaborative Practice:
- Engage with families, education professionals, and third-sector partners to develop co-created pathways of support.
- Foster a team around the child culture by facilitating shared understanding and decision-making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
