Company Description

Platanos College is a mixed secondary academy located in the Stockwell area of the London Borough of Lambeth, England. The school converted to academy status in 2011 and continues to work closely with Lambeth London Borough Council for admissions. Platanos College offers GCSE programmes of study, providing a structured and supportive learning environment for a diverse student population. The school also offers a grammar school pathway for high-achieving and gifted pupils, promoting academic excellence and high aspirations.

Role Description

The Special Education Teacher will provide differentiated instruction and support to students with a range of special educational needs in a secondary school setting. This full-time, on-site role, based in the London Area, United Kingdom, involves:

The teacher will collaborate closely with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to monitor progress, set goals, and ensure inclusive classroom practice. Daily responsibilities include:

  • Assessing student needs
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Managing classroom behavior positively
  • Participating in meetings, training sessions, and school-wide initiatives

The role also involves contributing to the wider life of the school through pastoral support and enrichment activities.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Special Education and experience supporting students with diverse Disabilities.
  • Strong Teaching skills at the secondary or Middle School level, including lesson planning, differentiation, and assessment.
  • Excellent Communication skills for working with students, families, colleagues, and external professionals.
  • Relevant teaching qualification (e.g., qualified teacher status or equivalent) and specialisation or training in special educational needs.
  • Experience working in inclusive classroom environments and familiarity with UK education frameworks and safeguarding practices.
  • Ability to use educational technology and data to inform instruction and track student progress.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and behavior management skills, with a student-centered and collaborative approach.
