Support pupils with special educational needs in a primary school

Support pupils with special educational needs in a primary school, assisting with learning, behaviour, and personal development under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator). Two positions available, one based on our reception/EYFS provision and one to work with children in Key Stage 2.

Wage

  • £13,520 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
  • National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices

Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 30-minute lunch break, working hours TBC
  • 32 hours 30 minutes a week

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Preparing and adapting learning resources
  • Supporting pupils during lessons, playtimes, and transitions
  • Helping pupils access all aspects of the curriculum
  • Providing personal care support if needed (e.g. toileting, feeding, or mobility)
  • Encouraging social interaction with peers
  • Supporting inclusive activities both in and out of the classroom
  • Updating communication logs and behaviour records

  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

This apprenticeship is delivered as a day release at our site in Stratford, E15.

You will be required to attend college once a week.
