Special Needs Teacher

Special Needs Teacher (Primary – ASD & SLD) | Full-time (Temp-to-Perm)

Location: Hackney | Employment Type: Full-time | Temp-to-Perm Basis

A special needs school in Hackney is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teacher to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). Establish yourself in a highly regarded Local Authority-established school that values progress and inclusion.

  • Class Structure: Small class size of 7 primary-aged pupils
  • Classroom Support: Fully supported by 3 full-time Teaching Assistants

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement personalised learning plans to enhance student independence and social skills
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists, to ensure tailored support
  • Monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies to create an inclusive, engaging learning environment
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and caregivers to support holistic student development

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualifications: Must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Experience:
    • Strong expertise in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
    • Previous experience in a primary setting preferred (transitioning from mainstream roles welcome)
  • Additional Standards:
    • Professional references covering at least recent employment or training must be submitted
    • Must meet safeguarding compliance requirements (proven UK-based experience within the last 3 years)
