At Wessex Internet, we're on a mission to connect rural homes and businesses across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire with lightning-fast full fibre broadband.

We're looking for an experienced Rural Civils Team Leader to join our Special Projects team. Whether your background is in civil engineering, utilities, telecoms, construction or agriculture, if you're passionate about leading people, operating specialist machinery and solving problems in challenging rural environments, we'd love to hear from you.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll oversee teams delivering fibre infrastructure across farmland, private land and rural communities using specialist trenchless equipment and excavation machinery.

What’s in it for you?

  • A starting salary of up to £36,000 - £39,000, dependent on experience.
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays, with the option to buy/sell up to 5 days.
  • Private medical insurance and life assurance.
  • Cycle to Work & Tech purchase schemes.
  • Enhanced family leave policies.
  • Staff broadband discount (75%).
  • High street discounts on 100+ brands.
  • Summer & Christmas team socials.

What you'll be doing

As a Rural Civils Team Leader, you'll lead teams of 2–4 Civils Operatives, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard while maintaining excellent relationships with landowners and customers.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Leading, motivating and developing a team of Civils Operatives to deliver rural fibre infrastructure projects safely and efficiently.
  • Operating and overseeing specialist excavation and trenchless machinery, ensuring works are completed to a high standard.
  • Planning daily activities, carrying out site surveys and resolving on-site challenges to keep projects on track.
  • Building positive relationships with landowners, customers and internal teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Promoting a strong Health & Safety culture through toolbox talks, quality checks and compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Monitoring plant, vehicles and equipment, coordinating maintenance and ensuring all site documentation is completed accurately.
  • Coaching team members, identifying training needs and supporting continuous improvement across the team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
