Special Security Technician Junior - Studentjob.co.uk

Job Title: Special Security Technician

Location: RAF Mildenhall, supporting the 55th Wing (55 WG)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Special Security Technician to join our team. This role is critical to managing security programs, ensuring compliance with protocols, and safeguarding classified information within a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Responsibilities include oversight of security facilities, personnel clearance processing, physical/information security compliance, and incident response.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) and Special Access Program Facilities (SAPFs), ensuring strict compliance with all security regulations and standards.

  • Conduct personnel security functions, including:

    • Processing security clearances
    • Maintaining access rosters
    • Verifying eligibility for classified access
  • Oversee physical security measures such as:

    • Access control systems
    • Alarm systems
    • Surveillance infrastructure
  • Perform information security tasks, including:

    • Classification management
    • Document control
    • Destruction of classified materials
  • Prepare and revise all physical security accreditation paperwork:

    • Fixed facility checklists
    • TEMPEST addendums
    • Construction security plans
  • Assist in managing the Control Access Program (CAP) security clearance processing in collaboration with government personnel to achieve timely clearance decisions.

  • Conduct security briefings, debriefings, and training to ensure personnel awareness of security policies.

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with DoD, Air Force, and Intelligence Community (IC) security regulations, policies, and directives.

  • Investigate and report security incidents, violations, or threats, ensuring swift mitigation and resolution.

  • Liaise with stakeholders including security officers, leadership, and mission partners to coordinate security efforts.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date security records, logs, and documentation.


Qualifications

Required

✅ Work Experience/Graduate Requirements:

  • 6 years of experience (without a degree), or
  • 4 years with an AS/AA, or
  • 2 years with a BS/BA, or
  • No years required with an MS/MA.

✅ Technical & Security Training:

  • Completion of a DoD security training course or specialized certification.

✅ Security Cleared:

  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance required.

✅ Technical Expertise:

  • Proficiency in SCIF operations and security compliance.
  • Familiarity with DoD/Air Force/IC security policies.
  • Experience with JPAS (Joint Personnel Adjudication System) or DISS (Defense Information System for Security).

✅ ** Skills:**

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for reports/briefings.
  • Ability to collaborate in a high-pressure, mission-critical environment.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting 55th Wing (55 WG) or similar military organizations.
  • Knowledge of physical security systems (e.g., intrusion detection, access controls).
  • Familiarity with risk management frameworks and security incident response procedures.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, Security+, or equivalent.
  • Previous roles as:
    • Site Security Manager (SSM)
    • Special Security Officer (SSO)
    • Unit Security Manager (USM)

Target Salary

$66,000 – $106,000 (subject to factors including:

  • Scope of responsibilities
  • Experience & education
  • Location & business agreement requirements.
  • Potential bonuses, overtime, and shift differentials apply)
