Job Description

East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work, delivering essential local services and making a real difference to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk.

We currently have an opportunity to join East Suffolk Council's finance team as a Specialist Accountant – Project and Fixed Assets.

The role:

This is a newly created role within the finance team, with responsibility for the Authority’s Fixed Asset Register ensuring full technical compliance, including all relevant entries and sections for the Statement of Accounts.

  • You will lead and represent the Council on key fixed asset accounting workstreams ensuring full technical compliance, both internal and working collaboratively alongside other partnerships and organisations.
  • You will be responsible for the implementation of changes impacting the Council’s Asset Register ensuring it is complete and correct.
  • Contribution to the progression of various corporate initiatives in accordance to ensure the Council is compliant with all relevant policies, financial legislation, and statutory requirements.
  • Working in collaboration with colleagues, you will ensure that the whole service is delivered in a professional manner in accordance with relevant statutory requirements and policies.

What you will need:

  • Ideally you will be CCAB qualified, although significant experience in a similar role with a desire to achieve qualifications will be considered.
  • Advanced technical knowledge and experience relating to Local Authority fixed asset accounting and experience in improving control and processes surrounding this.
  • Experience of successful operation delivery within a changing environment would be advantageous along with the ability to understand complex financial reporting issues.
  • Communication skills are key as you will be dealing with colleagues across East Suffolk Council at all levels, so self-awareness and political awareness in decision making is also key.
