Specialist Aseptic Services Pharmacist

Exciting Opportunity in Aseptic Services at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust

An exceptional and innovative role is available for a passionate professional interested in Aseptic Services to join our dynamic and evolving team at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

About the Aseptic Unit

You will be joining a forward-thinking aseptic service at an exciting stage in its development. Currently unlicensed, the unit delivers:

  • Comprehensive clinical trials, including Phase 1 and gene therapy
  • Early Access Medicines and compassionate use programs
  • Two specialized cleanrooms, one dedicated to gene therapy
  • Five negative-pressure isolators

Your work will ensure Christie patients have access to cutting-edge oncology and haematology medicines, supporting multi-disciplinary collaborations with strong ties to the University of Manchester.

Research collaborations, postgraduate training, and staff development are integral to our culture, with opportunities for career progression through internal qualifications and secondments.


Key Responsibilities

Aseptic Medicine Preparation

-oversee all aspects of controlled aseptic compounding under Section 10 of the Medicines Act 1968, including:

  • Clinical trial preparations

Service Development & Leadership

  • assist the Aseptic Services Manager in:
    • Evaluating and designing new aseptic services
    • Analyzing patient data and assessing local/national regional needs
    • Planning and commissioning aseptic facilities, including renovations or capacity upgrades

Accountability & Quality Management

  • act as the Accountable Pharmacist for aseptic services in the Manager’s absence, ensuring compliance with Section 10 regulations
  • support continuous improvement of the Quality System, ensuring adherence to industry standards

Staff Training & Operations

  • co-ordinate training programs for aseptically/safe medicine preparation, aligning with regional and national directives
  • collaborate with the Aseptic Services Manager to train and assess all workforce members

Collaborative Problem-Solving

  • Utilize critical thinking to resolve workflow challenges, negotiating solutions internally and externally when service constraints arise
  • Advise clinicians on operational feasibility of aseptic services

Research Support

  • facilitate aseptic services’ contributions to research and development projects across pharmacy
