Specialist Biomedical Scientist – Histology

Location: Huntingdon, HCA Laboratories (Histopathology) Contract: Full-time (37.5 hours per week), Monday – Friday Permanent position Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience Benefits: Excellent, including free parking


About the Role

We’re seeking a Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our Histology team at HCA Laboratories, based in Huntingdon. As part of HCA Healthcare UK, you’ll be contributing to a well-established service with over 35 years of expertise in delivering high-quality diagnostic pathology. Our laboratories support a diverse range of services, including:

  • Acute care
  • IVF
  • GP referrals
  • Health screening
  • Insurance pathologie

What You’ll Do

As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Histopathology, you will play a critical role in ensuring a reliable and efficient diagnostic service. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting day-to-day organisation and delivery of the histopathology service, ensuring efficiency and consistency
  • Performing independent troubleshooting and investigations to uphold service quality
  • Contributing to quality control and assurance processes, in line with ISO 15189:2022 and UKAS standards
  • Collaborating closely with senior colleagues to maintain workflows, resources, and overall service performance
  • Supporting and mentoring junior colleagues and new starters, including training and competency development
  • Working in a collaborative environment with opportunities for skill development and career growth

Requirements

To excel in this role, you must have:

  • A BSc in Biomedical Science
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
  • A Diploma of Specialist Practice or equivalent qualification in histology
  • Proven experience in a histology laboratory
  • Strong competence in routine histology techniques
