- Salary: £21,083–£24,508 per annum
- Contract: 32.5 hours per week
- Areas: Worcestershire/Gloucestershire border schools

- Salary of £42,161–£49,132 if worked full-time hourly equivalent (applied over 6.5 hours/week)
- Contract: 6.5 hours per week (equivalent to a proportionate annualised salary)

About the Role
We are a highly regarded, friendly team supporting deaf learners in mainstream schools and settings across Worcestershire. This is an opportunity to join us as a Specialist Teaching Assistant, working with deaf children and young people in their educational setting.
As a Specialised Teaching Assistant, you will collaborate with:
- Qualified Teachers of the Deaf/Multi-Sensory Impairment (TOD/TSI)
- Educational Audiologists
- Specialist Practitioners
- Setting-based staff
Responsibilities
You will work to ensure deaf children/youth thrive in mainstream education, with the following key duties:
- Provide specialist support tailored to deaf learners, leveraging your British Sign Language (BSL) skills.
- Advocate for each pupil’s needs in partnership with teachers, parents, and education professionals.
- Work across multiple Worcestershire schools/education settings in varied capacities, requiring mobility across the county.
- Build trusting one-on-one relationships with deaf pupils to nurture confidence and academic progress.
- Assist in sign language modelling (primary or secondary BSL) to promote language acquisition.
- Rehearse and refine sign language usage, ensuring clarity and fluid execution in daily activities.
- Contribute to and attend team meetings with specialist support teams to chart learning solutions.

Qualifications:
- BSL Level 2 qualification (recommended minimum) or equivalent education in BSL provision. Progression toward level 2 supported.
- Strong prior experience supporting children/youth with deafness or additional SEASEN (Special Educational & Additional Needs).
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and signed) for negotiating each pupil’s distinct learning environment.
- Proven ability to independently implement pre-planned educational sign language activities (e.g. contextualise learning partnerships using BSL).
Requirements

Essential:
- BSL Level 2 (or progressing) as standard, or verified wayside towards.
- Proven teaching assistant, childcare/education experience, preferably holding QTS or Welsh GAP credential (shortlisted candidates only).
- Knowledge of mental health, inclusion, and safety regulations.
- Flexibility to commute between buildings to provide specialist support as needed.

Desirable (additional strength):
- Experience of working with with children/youth who combine deafness with other SEANs.
- Training/certificate courses offered in sign-supported approaches or auditory priorities.
