Clinical Autonomy Practitioner – Children and Young People’s Mental Health (CAMHS)
As an autonomous practitioner, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality service provision that promotes and enhances the mental health and well-being of children and young people, their families, and carers.
About the Role
Managed within a multi-disciplinary team setting, this position requires the provision of a comprehensive range of care tailored to the needs of children and young people. Key responsibilities include:
- Full mental health assessment, risk assessment and management
- Family and social assessment
- Consultation and therapeutic intervention
- Evidence-based, needs-led interventions within a systemic and holistic framework
You will be expected to work collaboratively, ensuring shared decision-making and partnership with children, young people, families, and carers.
Responsibilities
Core Clinical Duties
- Provide specialist advice, information, consultation, and supervision both within the service and externally
- Liaise extensively with childhood and adolescent mental health (CAMHS) team members, community partners, and key stakeholders under the THRIVE framework to ensure cohesive multi-agency working
- Operate with high professional autonomy in the assessment, formulation, treatment, and discharge of children, young people, and their families/carers
- Develop and evaluate evidence-based care plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, referring to relevant agencies as needed
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, implementing risk management plans while fully adhering to safeguarding protocols and local/national policy

Leadership and Development
- Assume clinical leadership, supporting decision-making for complex and high-risk cases within the multidisciplinary team
- Provide clincial supervision, consultation, mentoring, and support to junior staff, students, and colleagues, fostering a culture of reflective practice and ensuring high professional standards
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement, auditing, and outcome monitoring activities to drive continuous improvement
Collaborative Practice
- Work closely with education, social care, primary care, and voluntary sector partners to facilitate coordinated care
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records while meeting service objectives, performance targets, and quality standards
