Specialist Clinical/Counselling Psychologist
Band 8a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist (Berkshire CAMHS West Specialist Community Team)
Location: Wokingham, with support for Reading and Newbury
The Berkshire CAMHS West Specialist Community Team (SCT) is seeking a Band 8a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join their multidisciplinary team, providing assessments, therapeutic interventions, and care coordination for children and young people with moderate to severe complex mental health difficulties.
About the Role
The Specialist Community Team (SCT) collaborates with clinicians, CAMHS teams, and external agencies to deliver high-quality, holistic mental health support to young people and their families. The successful candidate will provide senior development, supervision, and advocacy, maintaining responsibility for their caseload while offering guidance to junior colleagues in a supportive, MDT-driven environment.

Core Clinical Duties
- Provide comprehensive assessments and psychological interventions to young people and families
- Care coordination for patients under the service’s remit
- Independently manage a case load within professional good practice standards
- Offer clinical supervision and training to junior staff and partner organisations
- Support clinical leadership within the multidisciplinary team and multiagency framework
Service Leadership & Professional Development
- Contribute to audit, service development, and research initiatives
- Maintain and advance continuing professional development
- Collaborate in team-based professional development projects
Operational Accountability
- Operate autonomously within NHS/Government guidelines
- Ensure systematic governance of psychological practice
- Engage effectively in multi-agency and multidisciplinary discussions
Requirements
- Holder of an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist qualification
- Extensive experience in community CAMHS or equivalent settings
- Track record in senior practice, including managing diverse caseloads
- Evidence of supervisory skills and workshops facilitation
