Specialist Consulting Leader

Locations: Manchester, London, Leeds, Staines, Brighton ** Flexible office-based with travel as needed | Permanent | Full-time (37.5 hrs/week) | Salary: £67,500 - £84,300 DOE + bonus + car allowance**


About the Role

You’ll lead and develop a team of Specialist professionals responsible for the management, retention, and commercial performance of a portfolio of clients across the intermediary channel, with a core focus on Cashplan and Dental products.

Your team will drive growth within the Specialist portfolio, ensuring efficient distribution of Cashplan and Dental. You’ll also identify opportunities to expand into wider Bupa propositions, including PMI (private medical insurance) and clinics.

You’ll collaborate with key stakeholders in Bupa UK to ensure:

  • Distribution activities meet high-quality standards
  • Customer needs are satisfied
  • Regulatory compliance is upheld
  • Fair customer outcomes are consistently delivered

With a customer-centric mindset, you’ll be accountable for achieving year-on-year business growth and profit optimization through:

  • Strategic leadership
  • Operational excellence
  • Innovative business change
  • Delivery within Bupa UK’s conduct and risk framework

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Relationship Management

  • Lead the creation of strategic and operational plans to drive sales and maximize profitable growth from existing Specialist accounts (direct and intermediated).
  • Manage a portfolio of Specialist accounts—building commercially sustainable relationships with client contacts at all levels.
  • Take full ownership of Specialist relationships, including:
    • Renewal strategies
    • Growth through expansions and cross-sells
    • Collaboration with the Intermediary team
  • Focus on P&L efficiencies while supporting new business acquisition and portfolio expansion with UKI, Clinics and Business Growth (BG) teams.

Performance Monitoring & Accountability

  • Proactively monitor portfolio performance, including:
    • Margin levels
    • Retention rates
    • New registrations
    • Service levels
    • Identify corrective actions to meet profitability and customer satisfaction targets.
  • Lead remote and field teams to deliver growth in the Specialist customer base through:
    • New registrations
    • Retention strategies
    • Revenue and contribution targets.

Product Consultation & Customer Experience

  • Advise on total health strategy, positioning the full Bupa product portfolio (Cashplan, Dental, PMI, Clinics) in a unified, integrated way to meet client needs.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to strengthen and optimize processes aligned with the customer journey, working with:
    • Marketing Communications and Digital Product Team (PPD)
    • Sales and Marketing Compliance Teams
    • Prioritize end-to-end customer experiences.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance with Bupa’s Specialist Products and UK policies, including:
    • Internal operating procedures
    • Risk appetite alignment
  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing Compliance Teams to:
    • Identify, manage, and mitigate:
      • Conduct risks
      • Financial crime risks
      • Operational risks
      • Data protection risks
  • Lead bid and tender processes, leveraging expertise within Bupa/UKI for successful outcomes.

Culture & Team Leadership

  • Cultivate a high-performing team culture, ensuring:
    • Effective planning
    • Clear performance expectations
    • Strong interpersonal dynamics
  • Strengthen Bupa’s leadership position in the Specialist segment while upholding conduct compliance and operational robustness.

Requirements

Experience & Competencies

  • Strong leadership experience in B2B Sales or Account Management, preferably within financial services or healthcare.
  • Proven ability to build long-term client relationships and maximize business opportunities in regulated environments.
  • Experience in board-level and SME selling, persuasion, and negotiation.
  • Deep industry knowledge of revenue growth, profitability, and B2B sales strategies in a regulated healthcare market.
  • Demonstrated ‘Treating Customers Fairly’ principles and compliance expertise in sales.
  • Credibility and external gravitas as the voice of Specialist Sales distribution for Bupa.
