Job summary
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated dietitian to join our team.
As part of a team of five specialist bariatric dietitians, you will contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive Tier 4 service supporting people living with obesity pre and post bariatric surgery. This role is focused on managing an in-patient and outpatient (including groups) caseload, at St Mary's Hospital.
The post is well integrated within a dynamic multidisciplinary team, offering excellent opportunities for collaborative working alongside the autonomy to further develop your clinical expertise within this specialist area.
You will be joining a well-established and forward-thinking Dietetics department that is committed to continuous professional development and innovation. The role offers a range of opportunities, including involvement in student training, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
We are seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and proactive Band 7 dietitian who thrives in a busy multidisciplinary environment and is dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centred nutritional care.
Main duties of the job
- To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including management of patients in your care and undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
- To provide comprehensive and specialist therapy assessment and diagnosis for patients with a range of highly complex presentations, by utilising advanced clinical reasoning, evidence-based knowledge, investigative and analytical skills and specialist assessment techniques.
- To work both independently and within a team structure, demonstrating leadership to manage own and team caseload. To efficiently manage a caseload and organise this effectively with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
- To formulate and deliver an individualised and specialist care plan / therapy management programme based on advanced knowledge of evidence-based practice, advanced clinical reasoning skills, and a wide range of specialist treatment options. As a specialist clinician to provide a second opinion where required.
- To provide clarity and communicate complex clinical findings to the patient/carers to gain valid informed consent, prior to any intervention. To work within a legal framework for those patients who lack the capacity to consent to treatment.
- To communicate with patients in a way that empowers them to make informed choices about the management of their condition and engages them in the planning and delivery of treatment.

Essential
Education/Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in Dietetics
- State registration with the Health Professions Council
- Evidence of CPD through maintenance of a portfolio, especially in the relevant clinical area
- Clinical Educators course or equivalent
Desirable
- Post registration validated professional course
- Registered for MSc in Advanced Dietetic Practice or Diabetes
- Advanced communication training
- Post registration training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Supervisory skills training
- Management skills training
Experience
Essential
- Significant recent clinical experience in the dietetic management of Type 1 Diabetes
- Evidence of a broad base of clinical experience at Band 6 level or equivalent
- Significant experience of working as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team and inter-agency working
- Experience of multidisciplinary goal planning, development of care pathways, and using outcome measures
- Experience of organising and implementing training programmes for therapists, MDT members, support workers, students, and apprentices
- Experience of service development/change management
- Experience in implementing evidence-based practice in speciality
- Experience of on-call and weekend working in an acute hospital (if required for job role)
