Job Description
The post holder will be expected to act on their own initiative and will represent the Specialist Engineering team at designated Trust Governance meetings.
Role of the Specialist Engineer
The role of the Specialist Engineer is to deliver specialist engineering activities to all wards and departments within a multidisciplinary environment, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and legal requirements.
Specialist engineering services are defined as but not limited to systems covered both HTM’s and statutory instruments, i.e., Medical Gas, Pressure Systems, HV/LV Voltage, Passenger Lifts, Water Systems, Ventilation Systems etc.
Responsibilities
- Support supervisors in ensuring competency is maintained across the in-house team by delivering specialist engineering training and mentoring.
- Support in the development of technicians and apprentices, compiling and monitoring training programs.
- Support the management of key specialist engineering service contracts and act as a lead in designated service areas commensurate with their specialty; ensuring appropriate audits, contact management and remedial actions are delivered.
- Support in delivery and prioritisation of the actions identified in Authorising Engineers and highly complex technical reports.
- Maintain, operate and review pre-planned maintenance programme related to specialist engineering and complex technical subjects; reviewing working practices and procedures where required.
- Contribute to the achievement of good corporate governance throughout the Trust, and direct estates team members as required, ensuring their compliance with all Trust policies and procedures.
- Be a lead in designated specialist engineering subjects in the process of ensuring compliance with all Trust Statutory and Non-Statutory responsibilities relating to the Trust’s Estate.
- Develop the culture of responsiveness, ownership and customer care amongst Estates staff.
- Work efficiently using complex technology to work within Service Level Agreements and key performance indicators.
- Provide technical expertise and training on all aspects of Estates Maintenance function, promote communication at all levels and bring innovation, monitoring and measurement to ensure a value for money service.
- Be responsible for Health and Safety and welfare matters affecting the staff in or attached to their area of work responsibility. This will include risk assessment, safe systems of work, training toolbox talks and safety inspections.
