- Engineer, manufacture, and install marine and land cable systems globally
- Overcome technical challenges, environmental constraints, and client requirements
The Opportunity
We are expanding our team and are seeking an Experienced Survey Specialist Engineer with over 10 years of offshore/subsea operational experience. You will report to the Team Lead – Survey and work remotely, primarily from Edinburgh, UK.
Key Responsibilities
Survey & Technical Planning
- Control survey proposals and specify equipment/personnel (for Nexans vessels and subcontracted vessels) based on project requirements and frame agreements.
- Provide in-depth survey analysis and input to:
- Technical specifications
- Project procedures
- Subsea reliability assessments
- Equipment performance reports
- Collaborate across Marine disciplines to develop engineering solutions for marine cable laying and subsea cable protection (e.g., jetting, trenching).

Project & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with subcontractors to supply survey expertise and capacity for Nexans operations.
- Participate in Quality Assurance (QA) and Health and Safety Environment (HSE) activities, both internally and across project sites.
Knowledge & Networking
- Maintain an established network in offshore survey technology, ensuring Nexans remains a leader in methodologies.
Requirements
Education
- Preferable: BSc or MSc in Hydrographic Surveying, Geophysics, Geology, Geomatics, or related fields.
- Long-term experience may substitute formal qualifications.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years in:
- Offshore/subsea operations (e.g., project surveyor, party chief, survey manager, live/online surveyor, route surveys).
- Subsea cable laying operations.
- Subsea cable protection methods (e.g., jetting, trenching, SRI).

Technical Knowledge
Operations
- Knowledge required: UXO (Unexploded Ordnance), MBES (Multibeam Sonar), Single-Beam Echosounder (SBP), Side-Scan Sonar (SSS).
- Knowledge advantageous: Subsea cable protection techniques.
Software (Not mandatory but desirable)
- EIVA Suite (Hypack, Navisworks, etc.)
- Kingdom/SeeWiz
- GIS platforms (ArcGIS, QGIS)
Additional Considerations
Soft Skills & Values
- Technical documentation: Experience maintaining structured and verifiable records.
- Teamwork: Self-driven, able to take ownership of responsibilities.
- Pioneer, Dedicated, United: Must align with Nexans’ core values (pioneering spirit, commitment, collaboration).
- Fluency: Native-level English (written and spoken). Norwegian language skills are a bonus.
This role leverages deep expertise in offshore/geophysical surveying. Expertise in software is welcomed but not mandatory.
