Job Overview

This is a newly developed role. The Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) Psychiatrist will provide expert clinical input to Older People Services in Luton, operating within a community setting.

The role focuses on supporting a multidisciplinary team (MDT) in managing patients with dual diagnosis (mental health and substance use disorders). The post-holder will work closely with:

  • Pharmacy staff
  • Psychologists
  • Social workers
  • Community Psychiatric Nurses (CPNs)
  • Trainees

Professional accountability is to the Medical Director, while operational accountability rests with the Chief Executive Officer.

Main Duties

The Post-Holder Will:

  • Provide clinical leadership and contribute to the development of Addictions Services, with an opportunity to act as a visiting FDAC (Families & Drugs Advisory Committee) Psychiatrist in Luton.
  • Offer specialist clinical input by:
    • Conducting regular assessment clinics for dual-diagnosis patients (serving CMHT and Addiction Services).
    • Supporting patients in Path to Recovery (P2R).
  • Ensure high-quality care, aligned with best practice guidelines and maintaining professional standards.
  • Adopt a recovery-focused approach, placing the service user at the centre of care and decision-making processes.
  • Serve as the senior specialist clinician, offering expert support to both medical and non-medical team members.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and physical assessments for substance misuse patients.
  • Work closely with the FDAC team, which involves:
    • Seeing 2 parents per month in face-to-face clinic assessments (Luton Law Court or FDAC base).
    • Partnering with FDAC mental health practitioners who deliver pre-assessment substance screening.
    • Sharing assessment findings with key workers and writing short court reports for parent referrals.
    • Collaborating with addiction services (Resolutions and P2R) to provide ongoing care recommendations.
  • Participate in out-of-hours on-call duty (with a salary supplement by agreement with HR and line manager).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
