Job Description

We are recruiting for a Machinist/Mechanical Engineer/Specialist Mechanical Engineer/Workshop Manager who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

The Bioengineering team provides a repair, maintenance, and manufacture service to the cancer centre. The department is split into 3 sections - the mechanical workshop, EBME, and radiotherapy engineering. All three teams work together to ensure that cancer patients are treated in a safe and timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • The mechanical workshop provides a manufacturing service for the cancer centre producing customised equipment that cannot readily be purchased.
  • Candidates must be flexible and keen to be involved in helping patients. They will be innovative in finding solutions to the challenges that they are given within the resources of the NHS.
  • Work closely with the radiographers and physics staff to produce patient-specific, custom shielding and other aids to ensure that radiotherapy treatment can be performed in a reproducible and safe way.
  • Provide specialist mechanical workshop services to the cancer centre including 3D printing and machining in a range of materials (both metals and plastics). Use skills to design, manufacture, and repair patient-specific aids.
  • Work with the physics staff to design and manufacture equipment to be used by them to test equipment.
  • Work with the other engineering teams to ensure our equipment is ready for patient use. This could involve the manufacture or repair of parts, testing, servicing, calibration, and repair of equipment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
