An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our 0-19 team in Cumberland in the role of Specialist Nurse Infant Feeding/Healthy Weight. This interim role will support across Cumberland and Westmorland and Furness.
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Public Health Nurse to work within the 0-19 team to provide an enhanced service and direction.
The post holder, in line with public health improvement objectives and specification requirements, will have a lead role for infant feeding and healthy weight, reducing the high levels of childhood obesity in Cumberland. The post holder will support the increase in the number of mothers initiating breastfeeding at birth, increasing the numbers of mothers sustaining breastfeeding and the maintenance of UNICEF accreditation across Cumberland. This will include the formulation and implementation of breastfeeding policies and programmes of care.
The role requires the post holder to use their Specialist Community Public Health Nursing knowledge and skills to be the expert and take the lead in the development of programmes of support and advice for women, families and children, through targeted programmes of training and staff development for healthy weight and infant feeding within community health/ integrated children’s services across Cumberland.

- To be the lead specialist for healthy weight for children/young people and their families.
- To lead on the implementation of local and national breastfeeding initiatives, ensuring guidelines, training and health visiting/early year’s skills reflect recommendations.
- To influence, develop and implement research based changes to clinical practice.
- To provide specialist advice to the 0-19 Healthy Child Programme Team on weight management issues and ensure they follow agreed guidelines on obesity management.
- Work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team, supporting a systematic cross agency approach to the promotion of breastfeeding and improved outcomes, especially with women and families from disadvantaged groups.
- To develop, implement and monitor policies and procedures for the management of overweight children/young people and their families.
- To provide expert advice and guidance to all members of the multi-professional team when necessary, in relation to healthy weight, infant feeding and promotion of breastfeeding.
- Maintain clinical expertise in promotion and management of Healthy weight, infant feeding and promotion of breastfeeding.
