JOB DESCRIPTION
Specialist Nurse – Integrated Sexual & Reproductive Health (Band 5-6 Equivalent): Dutch and/or German Speaking
Responsible to: Medical Directors Reports to: Specialist Clinical Nurse Manager Contract: We offer a substantive contract, with full-time and part-time options available. The role is mainly remote, with occasional travel to Sheffield and Netherlands.
Purpose of Role: The postholder will work as an autonomous practitioner with support available from senior nursing team. Works with members of the multidisciplinary team to promote and deliver an excellent online integrated sexual health service. You will be a key member of the clinical team across Preventx’s clinical services in the UK and Netherlands. You will provide the nursing input to ensure that we deliver safe and effective care for service users. As an experienced sexual and reproductive health (SRH) nurse you will provide clinical care for presenting groups of patients including history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality care to our service users.
Location: Remote – Home based with occasional attendance, as necessary in Sheffield and Netherlands

Key Responsibilities
- Independently provide sexual and reproductive health care (online) to undifferentiated clients using online integrated sexual health clinics (genito-urinary medicine, contraception, termination of pregnancy, sex workers, men who have sex with men and associated outreach services).
- Provide highly specialised public health assessment & intervention with people at most risk.
- Provide STI/HIV/unplanned pregnancy/sexual exploitation risk reduction advice and support.
- Oversee and provide STI management and partner notification.
- Provision of contraception, PrEP and DoxyPEP online care.
- Be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality clinical services within the context of a clinical governance framework.
- Ensure that all activities in the area are carried out within Preventx guidelines.
- Provide sexual health care in English and Dutch and/or German.
Clinical Practice
- Autonomously manage sexual and reproductive health care online services, including management of STIs, partner notification, provision of contraception, PrEP and DoxyPEP care, health promotion, management of vulnerable service users and support onwards signposting and referrals where indicated – within your scope of practice, escalating to the senior clinical team as required.
- Act as the first point of clinical contact for the most at-risk populations accessing services, undertaking complex risk assessments of sexual health and wellbeing.
- To provide initial crisis assessment and intervention to clients with related social, emotional and psychological problems.
- To ensure that any safeguarding issues that arise are documented and managed in line with Preventx safeguarding protocols, referring or signposting onwards as required.
- To ensure disclosures of domestic / sexual violence and exploitation are managed appropriately, ensuring individuals are assessed and supported, with referral and/ or signposting to local statutory agencies, as per local and national guidance.
- To manage telephone enquiries from clinical colleagues and the public, in relation to sexual health, including up to date information, advice and signposting on infections, services, testing, diagnosis, treatment, risk reduction, health improvement and well-being.
- Work as an autonomous practitioner within your scope of practice using your clinical knowledge and skills to manage individual episodes of care for both male and female patients, based on physical, social, psychological and emotional needs.
- Provide specialist clinical care without direct medical supervision, with clear knowledge of treatment guidelines for common STI, contraception and prevention medications (e.g. vaccines, PrEP, DoxyPEP).
- Obtain a patient medical and sexual history in a systematic manner including physical, social, emotional, psychological and environmental factors.

Risk Reduction
- To provide risk reduction counselling to most at risk populations and those with elevated concern or anxiety accessing services.
- To provide targeted risk reduction intervention utilising a Motivational Interviewing approach.
- To address all aspects of individuals’ lives in relation to their sexual functioning and identity to promote sexual health and wellbeing (including self-esteem, relationships, alcohol and drug use).
- To support individuals to make informed decisions around their sexual health and wellbeing, and to provide a climate of understanding so that clients feel able to voice anxieties, needs and concerns on the telephone or other online media.
- Ensure appropriate and timely referral to external agencies relating to any identified risks/harms to individual service users/others (or escalation to senior nursing team as required).
Partner Notification
- To provide highly specialised partner notification to prevent the onward spread of STIs through index and provider referral.
- To ensure partner notification resolution through follow up assessment and intervention with index patients, contacts and liaison with sexual health staff in partner organisations such as NHS Trusts.
- To maintain strict confidentiality on behalf of the client in accordance with the Venereal Diseases Regulations 1974 and the Data Protection Act / GDPR in the execution of such duties.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, computerised and patient records of interventions and contact details for the purpose of partner notification.
- To ensure all patients diagnosed with, or at on-going risk to STIs are appropriately managed in line with local clinical guidelines.
- To participate in audit and research relating to partner notification.
Training and Education
- To participate in education and training programmes for health care professional, new members of staff, medical students, schools, colleges, community-based groups and other professional people requesting teaching on sexual health and relationship issues.
- Demonstrate clinical decision-making and an ability to monitor and improve standards of care, working within own scope of professional practice.
- Provide clinical guidance and specialist advice to the team members interacting with service users and act as a role model for clinical practice.
Management
- Work with the senior team to review and support the development of clinical services.
- Facilitate, initiate, manage and evaluate changes in practice to improve quality of care.
- Act as a resource and provide appropriate support for all staff members.
- To be responsible for the deployment, day-to-day management, supervision and coordination of clinical services.
- Assist with monitoring department activity.
Quality
- Promote, develop and support nursing/clinical audit.
- Participate in appropriate audits and research, presenting the findings to the wider group.
- Use research and findings to inform professional and clinical practice.
- Contribute to evidence-based practice and research projects within the clinical areas and highlight where written standards for clinical care require updating.
- Be aware of Health and Safety and Clinical Governance policies and assist with responsibility for any training issues for staff regarding these in line with statutory requirements.
