Specialist Occupational Therapist

Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated, and forward-thinking Band 6 Acute Medical Occupational Therapist to join the Central Area Occupational Therapy Team at Glan Clwyd Hospital. This is a permanent position working 37.5 hours per week.

You will be joining a large, supportive, and well-established team, committed to developing the future workforce, including supporting newly qualified Occupational Therapists as they transition into practice. The role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a progressive service focused on delivering timely, high-quality assessments within an acute setting.

The post holder will play a key role in supporting effective patient flow and discharge planning, working within a Discharge to Recover then Assess (D2RA) model and contributing to the delivery of the Six Goals for Urgent and Emergency Care. You will adopt a strengths-based, person-centred approach, ensuring patients are assessed in the right place and at the right time to maximise independence and recovery.

Main duties of the job

  • You will primarily work across acute medical wards. However, flexibility is essential, and you may be required to support other acute specialties such as Care of the Elderly or Surgical wards, in response to service demands.
  • These posts offer an opportunity to develop both clinical and managerial skills. Significant experience of working within acute physical health services is essential. You will play a critical role in the delivery of this service, ensuring person-centred care is delivered in a timely manner whilst also supporting hospital flow.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for some of the day-to-day management and supervision of junior staff within the department. Formal supervision and completion of annual appraisals with junior staff will also be required.
  • In addition, the post holder will contribute to the wider Occupational Therapy service, i.e., audits, service developments, attending meetings.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively within a fast-paced environment.
  • You will work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, whilst also providing support, supervision, and guidance to junior members of the team, contributing to a positive learning and development culture.
  • The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
