Band 6 Acute Medical Occupational Therapist – Glan Clwyd Hospital, Central Area Occupational Therapy Team
Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated, and forward-thinking Band 6 Acute Medical Occupational Therapist to join the Central Area Occupational Therapy Team at Glan Clwyd Hospital (permanent role, 37.5 hours per week).
You will join a large, supportive, and well-established team dedicated to developing the future workforce, including mentoring newly qualified Occupational Therapists. This role offers the chance to contribute to a progressive, person-centred service, ensuring timely and high-quality acute care assessments.
You will play a key role in supporting patient flow and discharge planning, operating within a Discharge to Recover then Assess (D2RA) model and aligning with Wales’ Six Goals for Urgent and Emergency Care. Your work will promote strengths-based, person-centred care to optimise independence and recovery, ensuring assessments are conducted in the right place and at the right time.

Main Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Primarily work across acute medical wards, with flexibility to support Care of the Elderly or Surgical wards as demand requires.
- Deliver clinically expert assessments and interventions to maximise patient independence and recovery.
- Contribute to effective hospital flow, ensuring smooth transitions from acute to primary care/rehabilitation.
- Adhere to a timely, person-centred approach, aligning with D2RA and Six Goals for Emergency Care.
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Provide daily management and supervision of junior staff, including formal supervision and annual appraisals.
- Foster a positive learning and development culture within the team.
- Enhance clinical and managerial skills, driving service improvements through participation in:
- Audits
- Service development initiatives
- Departmental meetings
Key Competencies Required
- Proven expertise in acute physical health services (essential).
- Exceptional organisational skills and prioritisation in a fast-paced setting.
- Ability to adapt flexibly to meet evolving service needs.
- Commitment to professional mentoring of junior colleagues.
