Specialist Pharmacist Cancer and Aseptic Services

Band 7 Pharmacist – Aseptic/SACT Services (Fixed Term or Secondment) (Worthing Hospital)

About the Role

We are excited to offer a dynamic career opportunity for a committed pharmacist to join our team in Aseptic/SACT Services (Band 7). This role is ideal for pharmacists starting or growing their career in this specialised field, with a focus on developing a centralised Aseptic Unit as part of future plans within Sussex.

The position sits within East Sussex NHS Trust (UHSussex), recognised for delivering Outstanding for Caring care (CQC). You’ll work alongside a supportive education and training team, promoting continuous professional development.

If currently employed by another NHS Trust or UHSussex: Approval from your current Trust or Manager must be obtained before applying (secondments require valid authorisation). Without approval, applicants cannot be eligible for secondment and may only apply on a fixed-term basis.

Responsibilities

Core Role

  • Ensure high-quality pharmaceutical care by performing clinical, technical, and administrative duties across Aseptic Services.
  • Support the safe and efficient production of SACT (Supportive & Advanced Therapies) medicines.

Daily Responsibilities

1. Clinical Support

  • Deliver specialist clinical pharmacy services to cancer patients.
  • Collaborate with national and local pharmacy specialists to develop best practices.

2. Aseptic Preparation

  • Maintain compliance with external audited standards in aseptic facilities.
  • Contribute to establishing a safe, efficient, and effective service within Aseptic Services.

3. Quality Control

  • Assist Lead Pharmacists in addressing internal and external inspection findings.

4. Education & Training

  • Lead training to ensure competence in aseptic preparation among all staff.
  • Identify and meet personal learning needs.

5. Patient Safety

  • Monitor chemotherapy regimens and medical prescriptions before manufacturing.
  • Oversee the production of chemotherapy agents against established standards.
