Specialist SEND Teaching Assistant | Term-Time Temporary Role

Location Taunton, Somerset

Hours Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Salary £89 – £100 per day (negotiable based on experience and qualifications)

Contract Type Full-time, term-time only

Start Date Tue 24th Mar 2026


About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Specialist SEND Teaching Assistant with a passion for inclusive education to support pupils with complex needs in either a specialist or mainstream school. Ideal candidates will have a strong track record of delivering tailored support to pupils with conditions such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties, or physical/sensory impairments.


Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 or small-group support to pupils with complex SEND needs
  • Implement and adapt learning strategies to meet individual educational requirements
  • Support academic progress, emotional well-being, and independence
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and personalised learning plan adjustments
  • Maintain detailed observations, progress records, and behaviour reports

Requirements & Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 6–12 months relevant SEND experience in a school or care setting
  • Confidence in addressing challenging behaviour and emotional regulation techniques
  • Ability to work proactively, flexibly, and calmly in classroom environments
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills

Desirable

  • Formal qualification (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning)
  • Training in Team Teach methods
  • Experience with SEND-specific CPD (Continuous Professional Development)
