Job Opportunity at Queen's Hospital, Burton

We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our team in the Speech and Language Therapy department at Queen's Hospital, Burton. This is a cross-site role, as we provide a service to both the acute hospital in Burton on Trent and community hospitals sites in Lichfield and Tamworth, where patients undergo further rehabilitation before discharge.

Role Overview

In this role you will provide communication and swallowing assessments for adults with varying diagnoses, including stroke, dementia, frailty and respiratory conditions. You will work on the wards at Queen's Hospital, Burton and Samuel Johnson and Sir Robert Peel community hospitals.

You will be part of a supportive team with access to structured supervision and appraisal. The role includes working with the wider MDT in the different ward settings to support the best patient outcomes for hospital discharge. Patients transfer to the community hospitals from a number of acute sites locally, so liaison with teams from other Trusts will be key to provide continuity of care.

Responsibilities

  • To independently manage a caseload of adults with acquired communication and/or swallowing disorders in acute and community hospital ward settings.
  • To provide specialist assessment and treatment for patients, using specialist knowledge and skills, underpinned by current evidence-based practice.
  • To work in collaboration with other members of the MDT to provide an integrated service for patients, MDT assessment, and family/carer support and education.
  • To participate in quality improvement projects, including audit and training of staff within the MDT to support best practice in dysphagia management.
  • To support the training and development of students on placement.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
