Speech and Language Therapist (Band 6 Development Role) – Dementia Services
Applications from therapists who do not fully meet the Band 6 JD/PS criteria but are seeking development opportunities are welcomed and encouraged. Remuneration will be under Annex 21 of the A4C T&Cs.
About the Role
This exciting opportunity is within the Speech and Language Therapy Dementia Services team.
If you are passionate about delivering excellent, person-centred care to individuals living with dementia and their families, you could thrive in this role.
The post is based at: Dementia Health and Wellbeing Centre, Ysbyty George Thomas, Treorchy
You will work across outpatient and community services and be a valued member of a multidisciplinary team (MDT), alongside the specialist Speech and Language Therapy dementia service.
Key Responsibilities
- Working collaboratively with the Memory Clinic to enhance earlier identification of speech and language changes in individuals with dementia.
- Supporting individuals with communication difficulties related to dementia—our role includes triage, assessment, and therapy—and promoting carer involvement.
- Contributing to the development and creation of communication resources for therapy interventions.

Welsh Skills Desirable
This role is marked as Welsh Desirable (Siarad/ osangal Uwch Ymgeisiodir wedyn). This indicates a preference but is not mandatory—however, proficiency will be viewed as an advantage during the selection process.
Minimum requirements are:
- Basic Welsh conversational skills (Speaking & Listening Level 3, equivalent to CEFR B2).
- The ability to discuss everyday health matters in Welsh.
