Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Flintshire Flying Start

Job Overview

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT TO 31/03/2028 DUE TO FUNDING

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN APPLYING FOR THE SECONDMENT POSITION, YOU MUST OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM YOUR CURRENT LINE MANAGER PRIOR TO APPLYING FOR THIS POST.

Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (Full time, 37.5 hours per week).

We are seeking a skilled Speech and Language Therapist for a new position within a multi-disciplinary team, supporting children in childcare settings, including those accessing funded places such as Flying Start Childcare.

The successful applicant will work with childcare providers: playgroups, private day nurseries, childminders and after school clubs, increasing access to information, advice, and assistance. They will also work directly with children to support them in their speech, language and communication development, from emerging needs to targeted SLC support or additional learning provision.

Although based at the Westwood Early Years Centre, Buckley, the role will require supporting providers across Flintshire and working alongside colleagues in differing Early Years Centres.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable—however, positions are equally open to English and/or Welsh speakers.

Main Duties of the Job

This role is an exciting opportunity to join the Early Years Childcare Team, alongside Early Years Advisors and Placement Officers.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Training and supporting those working with young children to recognise and respond appropriately to Speech, Language and Communication (SLC) needs.
  • Providing focussed support for childcare practitioners managing individual cases, including tailored training and advice on fostering a language-rich environment.
  • Promoting early language key messages, through bespoke training and workshops for staff and parents.
  • Assisting practitioners in childcare settings to meet Core Competencies as outlined in the All-Wales SLC Training Pathway, including guidance for practitioners with ELKLAN Speech and Language Support (0–3) and Makaton for Early Years qualifications.
  • Working directly with children to deliver targeted speech, language and communication interventions, from emerging needs to own and specialist support.
  • Conducting assessments and screenings using appropriate tools, generating observations and reports to inform decision-making.
  • Supporting children during transitions (funded programmes, education, childcare).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
