Speech and Language Therapist – Head and Neck Cancer (Band 6)

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

  • Use advanced clinical reasoning to assess, diagnose, and treat complex communication and swallowing disorders
  • Work in key clinical environments, including:
    • Radiotherapy Clinics – Proactively support patients during treatment
    • Outpatient Appointments – Deliver ongoing rehabilitation with evidence-based interventions
    • Surgical & Oncology Inpatients – Manage swallowing and communication support post-head and neck surgery

Leadership & Training

  • Supervise and mentor junior clinicians, assistants, and students
  • Provide high-quality training to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals
  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent
  • HCPC registration
  • Ability to demonstrate continuing professional development (CPD)

Desirable:

  • Membership of an appropriate clinical network group
  • Additional professional/academic qualifications relevant to clinical practice
  • Accredited Practice Placement Educator Certificate

Experience

Essential:

  • Extensive clinical experience in Adult SLT services
  • Experience with delegation to non-registered staff
  • Track record in service development/improvement
  • Contribution to student training

Desirable:

  • Experience with delegation to registered staff
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary/miwhen description”——— press prompt
