Part-time: Specialist Speech and Language Therapist – Secondary Schools (Merton)
Would you like to develop and apply your specialist speech and language therapy skills with secondary mainstream school pupils? If so, this exciting opportunity offers:
- A varied and complex caseload of Specialist Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Autonomy across multiple secondary schools in Merton
- Collaborative consultative working with parents, teachers, and agencies
Are you the right person for this role? You should have:
- Specialist knowledge of speech, language, and communication challenges in secondary education
- Confidence in managing an independent caseload
- Experience with group/individual interventions and whole-school support approaches
This role is with the Merton Speech & Language Therapy Service, part of the SENDIS (Special Educational Needs and Disability Integrated Service).
About the Role
As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will:
- Apply best-practice models for supporting children and young people with SLCN (aged 10+)
- Work autonomously to deliver interventions, assess, and implement Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCP)
- Engage with pupils, parents, teachers, SENDIS therapists, and other agencies
- Support and mentor newly qualified therapists, assistants, and students
- Represent the team externally and contribute to service development

Key Responsibilities
- Implement statutory and non-statutory speaking, listening, and communication interventions
- Deliver buy-back therapy services to schools, including training, advice, and team support
- Participate in multidisciplinary team rounds, reviews, and school collaborations
- Maintain accurate records, ensure compliance with policies, and attend supervision
- Contribute to research and good practice dissemination in the borough
Requirements
- HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist
- Proven experience working with secondary-aged children (10+ years)
- Confidence in independent case management
- Commitment to whole-school approaches and collaborative practice
- Experience with whole-class or group techniques where applicable

Salary: £43,680 – £48,003 pro-rata (or other Merton Local Authority benefits as per contract, including professional fee reimbursement).
