Job Title: Specialist Support Trainer

Position Type: Permanent / Full-Time

Hours of work: 37.5 Hours per week

Function: Group Services / Operational Excellence / Specialist Support

Reporting to: Learning & Development Manager

Area Covered: West Midlands Area (Stoke-on Trent, Stafford, Birmingham, Derby, Stockport, Shrewsbury)

Travel is usually planned 2 months in advance and occasional overnight stays will be required.

Job Description

Lifeways Group, one of the UK’s largest providers of specialist support services for people with diverse and often complex needs, is on a revolutionary journey to become the Care Provider of Choice. We are currently undergoing a significant transformation, focused on enhancing our processes, technology, and ways of working to empower our teams to deliver the best possible care. As a Specialist Support Trainer, you will be integral to this transformation, helping to equip our staff with the skills and knowledge they need to excel.

As a Specialist Trainer you will be expected to deliver a wide range of specialist learning opportunities supporting new staff at induction through to refreshing the knowledge and skills of existing staff in topics such as positive behaviour support, physical intervention training (in line with the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards), and person specific conditions.

This role is unique as we are really looking for someone with a passion for delivering great coaching / training - Lifeways will invest in you and support your professional development through specialist training qualifications we will enable you to become training leads in certain subject areas such as Autism, Acquired Brain Injury, Mental Health. You also will work in partnership with the Practitioner to identify training needs and design required training solution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Motivating and inspiring learners to achieve and develop their knowledge and skills.
  • Planning and delivering effective learning activities for diverse groups in a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Promoting a variety of learning approaches to suit the needs of the learners and the organisation.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of Positive Behaviour Support and least restrictive practices.
  • Supporting those learners who may have specific needs and work creatively to overcome any barriers to learning.
  • Enabling learners to share responsibility for their own learning, setting goals that challenge where appropriate.
  • Providing constructive and timely feedback to learners and to Operational Managers.

Essential Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ continuous employment in support or care roles in health care, social care or education.
  • Awareness of theoretical concepts, approaches and strategies of positive behaviour support (PBS)
  • Experience in delivering training solutions OR coaching, facilitating or teaching from either a social care or educational background
  • The ideal person will positive, resilient, and dynamic with excellent training delivery and presentation skills

Continued Professional Development

Lifeways will invest in you as our Specialist Trainer. The ideal candidate will hold or have a willingness to work towards:

  • Training of Trainer programmes in Physical Intervention Systems (Such as NAPPI and PROACT-SCIPr-UK®)
  • an accredited training qualification e.g Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF) or equivalent.
  • Current Emergency First Aid at Work certificate (which includes immediate life support) or willingness to achieve within a specified timescale.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and deal with situations in a sensitive manner
