Position Details
- Job Title: Band 6 Surgical & Intestinal Failure Dietitian
- Salary: £39,959 – £48,117 per annum (NHS Band 6 salary)
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full-time)
- Contract Type: Permanent

About the Role
We seek an experienced Band 5 or Band 6 Dietitian excited by the challenges of surgical care and intestinal failure nutrition. The role involves:
- ** colture on compounded reductionist considerations of gastrointestinal surgery and intensive support for patients undergoing such treatments**
- Leading shared caseloads with a second Band 6 colleague across:
- Intestinal failure management, including home parenteral nutrition support
- In-patient surgical wards
- Post-surgery outpatient clinics
- Full clinical autonomy supported by an integrated nutrition team
- Membership of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT)—centering on surgical and dietetic rounds and nutrition consults
You’ll work across our 30-strong dietetic team spanning acute care, renal, paediatric, and community settings.
Key Responsibilities
Core Work
- Deliver shared specialist dietetic services to:
- Patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery (maximising nutritional outcomes pre-, peri- and post-surgery).
- Intestinal failure patients requiring parenteral hydration support at home.
- Represent dietetics patient-facing while advocating its importance within the surgical team and broader MDT.
- Provide bespoke nutrition advice rooted in holistic patient access studies (integrating oral, enteral or parenteral pathways).
- Operate independently but within concepts of directed supervision where required.

Qualifications and Registration
Essentials
- Qualified degree or diploma in Dietetics.
- Registration with the HCPC (please provide registration number in your application).
Desirables
- BDA membership.
Experience
Essentials
- 1–2 years’ acute hospital dietetic experience.
- Demonstrated professional development (post-graduate study or research).
- Evidence of audit, service improvement or project work.
- Teaching/educational experience in dietetic practice.
Desirables
- Robust 2+ years in medical/surgical speciality work, preferably in:
- Gastrointestinal surgery (surgical caseloads/direct reference to specialist reviews).
- Parenteral nutrition and fluid management for intestinal failure.
- Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Clinical health promotion expertise.

- Excellent communication—speaking fluently with patients, carers, and colleagues.
- Strength in prioritisation and flexibility (ability to combine multiple competing tasks efficiently).
