Specialist Teacher (Integrated SEND Service, Children and Education) – Three Year Fixed Term Contract / Secondment Opportunity
About the Role
A three-year fixed-term contract / secondment opportunity awaits a creative and passionate teacher, experienced in inclusive practice, to bring expertise to Hackney Education’s Integrated SEND Service. This role is key to shaping the future of inclusion for children and young people in Hackney, aligning with our mission to make Hackney a leading forward-thinking education provider in the UK.
Our ambition? To improve the life chances of every child, ensuring they grow, learn, develop, and achieve while fostering environments that foster belonging and inclusion for all, regardless of special educational needs or disability. As part of the 2026 SEND Reform, we are seeking five Specialist Teachers to work collaboratively with families, schools, and multi-agency teams to support diverse pupil populations through neuroaffirmative, evidence-based teaching approaches.
Responsibilities
The Specialist Teacher will:
- Partner with families, schools, and external agencies to identify and support additional learning needs across primary, secondary, and Post-16 settings.
- Model high-quality teaching practices, including planning, individualised interventions, and small-group support.
- Build educational capacity in settings through professional development, training, and consulting (using the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle).
- Monitor and evaluate intervention success using data-driven approaches to ensure evidence-based impact assessment.
- Stay current with SEND policy changes, including the 2026 SEND Reforms, SENCo responsibilities, and Ofsted/EHCP compliance.
- Champion inclusivity, neurodiversity awareness, and attainment for all with unwavering commitment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
